Continuing our venture across the Midwest, our travels took us about twenty minutes south of St. Louis on historic Rt 66, The St. Louis West Rt 66 KOA is built for family fun and is minutes away from Six Flags St. Louis.
I have been to this KOA but it was in January, dark and cold. Not exactly weather to explore the campground. This year we rolled in about 5pm CST, so there was plenty of daylight to see the place.
It was a chilly 95+ and dripping humid, so the pool was packed. Even with loads of kids and family using the pool it was spotless, just like the rest of the campground. This is because the owner, Paul wants his guests to have a great stay.
Since l travel with my dog, l am interested in how Kamp K9 is maintained. I was surprised to see two enclosed areas for the dogs to romp. This is really a nice feature since some furry campers do not play well with others or there could be a big size disparity. Both areas shared a common entrance and were well maintained.
During the summer there are “train” rides around the park, movies in the pavilion, ice cream parties, flashlight lollipop hunts, t-shirt decorating…you need to check the activities when you check in. In addition to planned events you can play basketball, use the bounce pad, swim, rent or ride your bicycle over the roads. If the weather turns south, you have several cable channels to watch or there is WiFi so you can use your mobile devices.
When you need to shower or do laundry the facilities are clean and in good repair. There are numerous cabins if you prefer to stay in a house. From what l saw they too are clean and well maintained. Most of the campsites are pull through and site options vary.
The St. Louis Rt.66 KOA is one of the most family and business traveler friendly campgrounds l have used. You are near several gas stations, restaurants, tourist sites and convenient to the city and interstate. l cannot suggest this year round KOA enough.
